Why I stopped buying Batiste Dry Shampoo! πŸ™…‍♀️

I have bought countless bottles of Batiste Dry Shampoo over the years πŸ€‘(in fact I counted: in 2019 I bought 8 bottles of Batiste!). I named it one of my "most repurchased beauty products" of 2019. I have raved about Batiste Dry Shampoo many times on my blog -and even to friends and I am a firm believer that I got rid of my dandruff, because I stopped washing my hair so often (read here about my dandruff story) but used Batiste instead.

So, why have I stopped buying Batiste Dry Shampoo? Do I think it is a bad product all of a sudden?

No! πŸ™…‍♀️ I still think this is a fantastic dry shampoo (the best I have tried!) It works fabulous and I like the clean fresh scent.

However, what turned me off, was the constant raising of the price! I remember how it used to be $4.99 a bottle (2 to 3 years ago!) but it seems every year they add a dollar to their price! Last time I checked the price at Walmart was $6.99- heck on Ulta.com the price is even higher: $8.99 (for the regular 6.73 oz bottle).

I go through a bottle within 3-4 weeks and I really did not want to buy it for that price! I´d rather wash my hair every 3 days πŸ˜‚ (instead of 4 and yes *cough sometimes even 5 days).

So, I decided to google a DIY recipe for dry shampoo and found many! To my utter surprise the main ingredient of any dry shampoo is starch! From rice starch, to corn starch, tapioca starch or arrowroot starch! Store bought dry shampoos usually contain alcohol- actually not something you should spray onto your scalp, as it might dry out your scalp or irritate it.

Here are the ingredients of the Batiste Original Dry Shampoo
Butane, Isobutane, Propane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Alcohol Denat., Parfum (Fragrance), Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Benzyl Benzoate, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetrimonium Chloride.

Rice Starch is the simple magic in Batiste! All the other ingredients are actually not that desirable.

Turns out it is so easy to achieve the exact same result that a dry shampoo gives you! All I needed was corn starch! That is right! Good ole fashioned corn starch (I picked up a container of 16 oz for under $2 at Walmart!)

Here is what to do:

You just use a big fluffy brush (like this one), dab it gently into the container (but tap off excess!) and apply the corn starch directly on your roots! Then shake your hair out (as I would do with Batiste dry shampoo too). Simple as that! It is so freaking simple and the results speak for itself. And that container lasts FOREVER! You really don't need much!

For my convenience I filled a little corn starch from the big container into a smaller container (like this one or you can use an empty loose face powder jar!) and put it together with my fluffy brush right under my sink in my bathroom!

I read in DIY recipes that brown-heads might like to add a little cocoa powder (unsweetened)! Just mix your favorite starch with cocoa powder in a container and voila! Another day without washing your hair can go by! LOL!

I kinda feel like a fool, using Batiste all these years! Cause, corn starch (or any other starch) is all you need y'all! ✊Can you believe it?

You might think: but what about the fresh clean scent? Corn starch (or any other starch) does not have a scent. If you miss that, just use a spritz of your favorite fragrance behind your ears- or even directly on your hair (I like philosophy "Amazing Grace").

Try it for yourself and save some bucks. Let me know if this simply trick was life changing for you too! 😏
