Does heat protectant spray really work?

Have you ever wondered, if heat protectant sprays actually work? I sure hope so, but I was curious about it and so I tested it for myself!

I tested 3 different heat protectants in different price ranges.

1. L'Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths $6-$7 // Amazon // Douglas.de
2. Chi 44 Iron Guard // Amazon $12 // Douglas.de
3. Moroccanoil Perfect Defense $30 // Amazon // Douglas.de

1. L'Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths

Claims: Dream Lengths Heat Slayer Pre-Iron Spray Leave-In protects against heat damage up to 450F degrees.

Ingredients: AQUA / WATER / EAU DIMETHICONE STEARYL ALCOHOL BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE PHENOXYETHANOL POLYSORBATE 20 TRIDECETH-9 PG-AMODIMETHICONE PARFUM / FRAGRANCE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL PPG-5-CETETH-20 LAURETH-23 LAURETH-4 CAMELINA SATIVA SEED OIL XYLOSE HEXYL CINNAMAL TRIDECETH-12 ARGININE GLUTAMIC ACID SERINE SALICYLIC ACID LINALOOL BENZYL SALICYLATE LIMONENE BENZYL ALCOHOL COUMARIN

My experience: I really loved my results with this heat protectant. My hair felt super smooth and soft.

Loved the results!

To test if it really protects, I sprayed half of a toast with the heat protectant (got this hack from TikTok), stuck it into a toaster, because it claims to protect up to 450F- well, guess what? That is the temperature inside a toaster!

And look what we got! The side that I sprayed with the heat protectant looks untoasted! Wow! This seems to really work!

2. Chi 44 Iron Guard

Claims: Superior thermal protection spray that works from the inside-out, helping to protect hair from thermal damage and breakage with a weightless formula with no added build up. Helps to seal the cuticle and works to prevent future damage.

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate, Alcohol Denat., Polysorbate 20, Propanediol, Hydrolyzed Silk, PPG-20 Methyl Glucose Ether, Caprylyl Glycol, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Silica, Alumina, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

My experience: I was not happy with this heat protectant! My hair felt very tangled and crunchy and when using my brush to blow-out I even ripped some hairs out cause my hair felt so tangled. Unfortunately I did not enjoy my hair that day at all. Look at the crunchy front parts! Not nice.

See how crunchy my hair looks at the front? Not happy!

However, the toaster test revealed that it does protect also!

My experience: I absolutely loved my hair with this heat protectant. It felt so light, voluminous, smooth and shiny and on top it smelled heavenly!

So much volume and so airy! Perfect blow-out!

The toaster test also revealed: it does protect!

Well, if the heat protectant sprays are protecting toast, I hope it also does protect hair. It sure looks like it could work. Even though the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense was my favorite out of the 3, I find the results with the L'Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths just as good. The Moroccanoil Perfect Defense just gave me more volume and it smells so good and makes you feel like you just got a blow-out from a salon.

I try not to always use heat on my hair, but if I do I will make sure to always include a heat protectant spray from now on!

Watch it on YouTube also!
