FIGHT OF THE MICRO BROW PENCILS!
I really like to use micro brow pencils- you know those with a tiny tip that makes it easy to create precise brow strokes? Today I am comparing 3 of them: the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil ($5.50), the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ($21). How do they compare?
I believe strongly, that the color of the micro brow pencil matters, in regards to the quality as well (some colors perform better than others, are more "buttery" etc), so I think it is important to mention that I tried the Nyx and the Anastasia in "taupe" and the BH Cosmetics in "blonde".
I find that you won´t see any difference in the color when I swatch all 3 pencils. So, overall my eyebrows will look definitely the same - no matter which pencil I use.
However: the time that I need to apply the brow pencil differs due to the consistency of the brow pencils. I would rate it like this: the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz is the most easiest to apply: super soft and buttery and I will need only seconds to apply the right amount of product.
Followed by the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD brow pencil that is slightly stiffer than the Anastasia- yet still works gentle, fast and smooth.
Major let down: the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil. Dude! I really don´t know if I got a dud or what, but mine felt so hard and stiff! It was such a struggle and - I am not kidding- a couple times I actually ripped out an eyebrow hair because the wax was so stiff! On top of it the Nyx brow pencil broke off not once- but twice and I was able to use it about 5 times before it landed in the trash!
Nyx micro brow pencil: the tip just broke off! :-( |
I see a lot of rave reviews for the Nyx brow pencil and girls say it is a dupe for the Anastasia one- but for me it was absolutely not. It was such a fail! While my end result of the look of my brows certainly looked the same as with the other 2 brow pencils, it took me forever to do that because the color payout was horrible.
My verdict: The BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil is my winner- especially due to the price, great color payout, easy to use- but: the problem is that shipping on BH Cosmetics website is $7.95- which makes the awesome price of $5.50 not that awesome anymore lol. Or you order it on Amazon. ;-)
If the shipping turns you off though, I still would just pick up the Anastasia one. Overall it is the most buttery one with a great color payout and the tip never broke off either. The only con is the price! ;-)
