Retinol is one of the best anti aging ingredients and today I will tell you, why! First up: what is Retinol? Retinol is basically another form of Vitamin A- but pure Retinol is so much better than only Vitamin A, because scientists broke down the Vitamin A to get it more concentrated.
What does Retinol do to your skin?
It minimizes wrinkles, improves uneven skin tone, helps to achieve more firmness and even minimizes the look of pores. If you have never tried a Retinol product, you might react with slight flaking of your skin- this however does not mean that the Retinol is drying out your skin, but instead it helps you, to get rid of the top layer of your skin.
And THAT is exactly what we want, because as we age, we loose the ability that our skin regenerates itself every 28 days. That is why our skin starts looking older- it does not get rid of the top layer of the skin anymore and therefore doesn´t produce a fresh young looking skin layer. Our skin needs help to do that! And that is what Retinol can do for us. So, please don´t confuse dry flakes with dry skin- we WANT to get rid of that top layer of our skin to reveal younger fresher looking skin!
And here is an excellent choice for a serum that uses pure Retinol: the Jouviance Restructiv Coactive Anti-Aging Formula ($49). Jouviance is a Canadian brand that recently launched in the US.
Here are the claims:
This is a wonderful serum with pure Retinol in a light weight lotion that absorbs fast. Besides pure Retinol it also contains Matrixyl 3000 and Omega 3 and 6 as well as Ceramides- what an anti aging power-pack! I love the fact that it is absolutely not greasy, as I have combination to oily skin. However, if you have dry skin, you simply use this as a serum and apply your favorite moisturizer on top for the hydration that you need.
The Jouviance Restructiv Coactive Anti-Aging Formula is available at CVS and on jouviance.com and I highly recommend it.
